Privacy Policy

Effective July 30, 2026

Korta helps you find people to play tennis with, log your matches, and track your progress. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. It covers the Korta mobile app and our website, playkorta.com (together, “Korta”), operated by Korta in Austin, Texas, United States.

The short version: we don't show ads in the app, we don't sell your data, and we only collect what we need to run Korta.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

Account details. When you create an account we collect your name, email address, and a password. If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email, and profile photo from that provider instead of a password. You can optionally add a phone number, date of birth, and gender.

Profile details.Your display name, profile photo, city and ZIP code, self-reported skill level (NTRP), play style, bio, and playing preferences (what you're looking for and how competitively you play).

Content you create. Match scores and results, practice sessions, court or location names you type in, notes, feed posts, comments, cheers, and messages you send to other players, including photos you attach. If you report another player or piece of content, we collect the report.

Information created as you use Korta

Playing on Korta generates your Korta Score rating and its history, win/loss record, activity streaks, trophies, your connections with other players, and any club memberships. We also record when you were last active so other players can see who is around to play.

Device and technical information

We collect a push notification token (if you enable notifications), your device platform and OS version, app version, timezone, IP address, and usage analytics such as which screens and features you use.

Camera and photos

The app only accesses your camera or photo library when you choose to take or pick a photo — for your profile picture, a share card, or a message — or to scan another player's Korta Code. QR scanning happens on your device; camera images are never uploaded unless you choose to share them.

Website visitors

If you join the waitlist on playkorta.com we collect your email address. If you use the contact form we collect your name, email, and message. The website also uses cookies for analytics and ad measurement — see section 7.

2. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Run Korta — help you find nearby players, arrange matches and hits, message other players, and see the feed for your city and connections
  • Calculate your Korta Score and maintain your match history, stats, and trophies
  • Send push notifications you've enabled, such as match confirmations, messages, and reminders
  • Keep Korta safe — review reports, enforce blocks, and prevent abuse
  • Understand how the app is used so we can fix bugs and improve features
  • Comply with legal obligations

We do not use your data for targeted advertising in the app, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with data brokers.

3. Who can see your information

Korta is a social app, so some information is visible to other players depending on your profile visibility setting (public or private):

  • Your profile — display name, photo, city, skill level, play style, and bio — is visible to other players according to your visibility setting
  • Your Korta Score is visible to any Korta player, regardless of your visibility setting
  • Match results and scores are visible to the players who took part, and match recaps you post appear in your connections' feeds
  • Posts you share to your city feed are visible to players in your city; posts shared with connections are visible to your connections
  • When you go live to find a hit, players near you can see your session and roughly how far away you are — never your exact location
  • Messages are visible only to the people in the conversation

If you create a share card, you choose whether to share it outside Korta (for example to Instagram).

4. Service providers we share information with

We share information with a small number of companies that help us run Korta. They may only use it to provide their service to us:

ProviderWhat they doWhat they receive
ClerkSign-in and account securityEmail, name, password (stored hashed — we never see it), and Google or Apple sign-in details
ConvexDatabase and file hostingYour profile, content, and activity data, including photos
ExpoPush notification delivery and app updatesPush token, device platform, app version
Apple & GooglePush notification transport on iOS and AndroidPush token and notification content
PostHogProduct analytics for the appUsage events, device type, OS version, IP address
ResendEmail delivery for the website waitlist and contact formEmail address and the details you submit with it
Google AnalyticsWebsite analytics (playkorta.com only)Website usage data and cookies
MetaWebsite ad measurement (playkorta.com only)Website visit events and cookies

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect the safety of our users, or as part of a merger or acquisition — in which case this policy would continue to apply and we would notify you.

5. Location information

Korta does not access your device's GPS or location services, and never tracks your location in the background. The only location information we have is the city and ZIP code you enter on your profile. We convert your ZIP code to the approximate center point of that ZIP area so we can show you nearby players and sessions, and show other players roughly how far away you are. Other players never see your ZIP code, coordinates, or anything more precise than an approximate distance.

6. Push notifications

If you enable push notifications, we store a device token so we can deliver them via Apple and Google's notification services. You can choose which categories of notifications you receive in the app's notification settings, or turn them off entirely in your device settings.

7. Analytics, cookies, and advertising

In the app, we use PostHog to understand how features are used — which screens are visited, what device and OS version you're on, and similar usage events. There are no ads in the app and no advertising SDKs.

On playkorta.com, we use Google Analytics to measure site traffic and the Meta (Facebook) Pixel to measure how well our ads perform — for example, whether someone who saw an ad joined the waitlist. These tools use cookies. You can limit them by blocking cookies in your browser and through Meta's ad preferences and Google's opt-out tools.

8. Data retention and deleting your account

We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your profile and personal information within 30 days, and it is removed from backups on a rolling basis after that.

Two things survive account deletion: match results you played against other people remain in their match histories (no longer linked to your profile), so their records stay accurate; and we may retain limited records where required by law or to resolve safety issues.

You can delete your account at any time in the Korta app: open your Profile and choose Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account and your personal information.

If you can no longer access the app, send us a request through our contact form using your account email — we'll process the request within 30 days.

9. Your rights and choices

Wherever you live, you can ask us to access, correct, delete, or give you a copy of your personal information, object to or restrict how we process it, and withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. Send us a request through our contact form and we'll respond within 30 days. We will never treat you differently for exercising these rights.

In the app, you can also directly:

  • Set your profile to public or private
  • Edit or remove profile details at any time
  • Choose which notification categories you receive
  • Block or report other players
  • Revoke camera and photo permissions in your device settings

If you're in the EEA, UK, or a US state with a privacy law, these rights are backed by that law, and you may also lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. We do not “sell” or “share” personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act.

10. Children

Korta is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us through our contact form and we will delete it promptly.

11. Security

Your information is encrypted in transit and at rest by the infrastructure providers we build on. Passwords are handled by Clerk and stored hashed — we never see or store them ourselves. We limit who can access production data. No service can guarantee perfect security, but if a breach affects your personal information we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.

12. International users

Korta is operated from the United States and your information is processed and stored on servers in the United States. If you use Korta from outside the US, you understand your information will be transferred to and processed in the US, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.

13. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes we'll notify you in the app or by email, and we'll always update the effective date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Korta after a change takes effect means you accept the updated policy.

14. Contact us
